When menstrual pain appears it’s absolutely normal to be moody. You are just a hormonal bomb ready to boom in every minute. And, obviously you take a handful of pain killers just to combat the pain and to function like a normal person again. But pain killer aren’t the best solution every time. Why poisoning us every month with a pill when we can try drinking a cup of tea or relieving the pain a warm compress. Here, I’ll list some natural remedies, all tested, with guaranteed results that will get you rid of period cramps.
Oatmeal: it digests slowly, and gradually releases sugar into the bloodstream. This will combat your cravings for sweets that you feel before and during your period.
Citrus: both, eaten natural or squeezed to drink a natural juice, will promote iron absorption in the body. You should know that during menstruation, your body can deal with iron deficiency due to abundant bleeding. Other iron sources, which you should keep in mind, during this period is: apricots, liver, vegetables, fortified cereals and crustaceans.
Red meat: it has rich iron content, and beside that, it’s rich in zinc (which your body loses during menstruation). This mineral is necessary for bone health, and a deficiency can lead to amenorrhea (absence of menstruation). Other sources rich in iron and zinc are: chicken, fish and green leafy vegetables.
Avocado: contains serotonin which enhances the neurotransmitter responsible for your mood. Other sources of serotonin are: eggplant, plums, dates, papaya and pineapple.
Bananas: they are very rich in potassium, and it will help you to get rid of bloating and water retention symptoms, that we often encounter during menstruation. Other foods with similar action are: potatoes, broccoli, onions, tomatoes, figs and blueberries.
Hot water compresses are excellent
Hot water: Pour in a plastic bottle and placed in on your abdomen to relieve period cramps. Or, you can try to moisten a towel in hot water, squeeze the water excess and put it on your abdomen.
Water: high water consumption is very important when you have period cramps. Dehydration stimulates the body to produce a hormone (vasopressin) that contributes to cramps.
Basil: relieves period cramps because it contains caffeine and it works as a natural pain killer. Also thyme contains caffeine. You can boil a cup of water and add 2 tablespoons of thyme and basil to prepare a tea. Eat 1/2 a cup or 1 cup every hour to relieve period cramps.
Ginger: relieves period cramps and sometimes can regulate your menstruation period. Consume ginger as tea because is the most effective: put 1/2 a teaspoon of grated ginger in a cup of boiling water and drink it 3 times a day.
Mustard grains: 2 tablespoon of ground mustard grains, mix them with warm water and dip your feet in it to relieve period cramps and to enjoy their relaxing effect.
