Unpacking

There’s nothing like opening a package, even when you know what’s inside, it’s still exciting having something physical in hand for you to ooh and ahh over. And the Muzen was no different.

The Muzen OTR Wood came safeguarded in a faux leather pouch and even that was wrapped in a thin cloth like bag. The pouch is functional for carrying the radio and the cords you’ll need if you’re gonna change locations, like bringing the radio to work or taking it with you on vacations, maybe you want to have some music at a family picnic, etc.

Inside of the pouch, the Muzen radio sits bundled in a nice protective styrofoam, and all of the necessary cords and accessories are neatly packed in the pouch along with a couple of surprises from Muzen, one being a year warranty card, you just need to pay for shipping.

Design & Features

Hand finished in rosewood, the speaker has a polished retro aesthetic, it has black dials for the the volume, source, and tuner. Something so simple as having to physically turn a dial until the station of your choice sounds clear and crisp really does bring you back.

The best thing about the look of this radio is the conversations that comes after the compliments which comes after your peers see the speaker for the very first time. It is truly a unique device.

A multifunctional USB port and Bluetooth are what takes this speaker from being a radio that emulates the past in all the wrong ways to a feature that allows this device to truly take advantage of nostalgia whilst having a purpose and functionality in modern age.

This speaker also has an LED light that glows green when the radio is turned on the FM, orange when it’s receiving AUX input and/or white when connected to the Bluetooth.

Performance

Despite the small stature of the Muzen OTR Wood speaker, the sound that comes from it is clear, robust and full; there was never a crackly or a distorted sound coming through to interrupt the listening experience, another great thing is the volume can be as quiet or as loud as you need it to be and it never prioritizes the bass to the exclusion of everything else like so many other radios, the speaker sounds great across the board, it’s a true all-arounder.

Muzen OTR Wood has a very wide response range, and can practically play music just about anywhere; and the multifunctional USB port at the back of the speaker opens up possibilities on what this device can be linked to get your ideal radio experience.

The desktop radio connects wirelessly to your Bluetooth devices and starts as soon as whatever device you’re using is paired with the speaker and/or whenever the Bluetooth is selected on the speaker.

Battery Life

The Muzen OTR Wood speaker lasts for 10 hours, specifically at 60% volume: 8 to 10 hours in Bluetooth mode and 20 hours in FM mode; at maximum volume: 4 hours in Bluetooth mode and 10 hours in FM mode when the device is completely charged.

It takes 3 to 4 hours for the device to be fully charged, the indicator on the left side of the charging port will be red to show that it’s charging and green to indicate that it’s fully charged: please do not leave the device plugged up after it’s done charging, as with any technology that uses electricity to charge itself, you will drain the battery if it’s kept plugged up/in.

Do not replace or dissemble the battery of this device by yourself, if there is battery damage or other conditions requiring battery replacement, you can contact Muzen and they will replace the battery for you, and you won’t even need to use your warranty card.

After using the Muzen OTR Wood Speaker, I can say with sincerity that it is worth having, if you are looking to buy a small radio that won’t take up too much room on your desk but will have amazing sound quality then this is for you. If you are thinking of buying a radio for home but are hesitating …don’t, the wood finish matches almost any furniture and can be put on anything from desks, to shelves, to television stands, to the shelf over top of the fireplace without taking much of any room. If you want an amazing quality product under a $100 then this is for you, as we all know it is rare that any good quality tech is this low and for $89 this radio could be yours.

Muzen OTR Wood Speaker is currently not available online or any stores, but you can crowdfund this amazing radio at Indigo and get your very own Muzen OTR Wood speaker for just $69, you can also add perks that would enhance the use of your radio like a wood stand or a rubber case, etc, but I would hurry if I were you, that low price is sure to go away once the crowdfunding is closed.
