The 14th US-China Symposium on Building the Financial System of the 21st Century, co-hosted by China Development Research Foundation and Harvard Law School, was held in the U.S. from May 17th to 19th. More than 130 professionals in financial industry of China and the U.S. attended the event, and had in-depth discussions on issues including “Leadership change and its effect on US-China economic ties”, “next step for the opening of capital market of China and the U.S. and reform of financial supervision”, “opportunities and challenges brought by financial technologies (Fintech) and supervision technologies”, and “Capital integration, investment, and market access”.
Since 2004, the Symposium is held once every year in China and the U.S in turn. It is an important platform for regular and direct communication of the financial industries of the two countries. At the symposium, Li Jiange, Vice Chairman of Central Huijin Investment Ltd., Fang Shangpu, Deputy Director of State Administration of Foreign Exchange, Cheng Lei, Chinese Consul General in New York, Andy Baukol, acting undersecretary of U.S.Treasury Department and Wilbur Ross, US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, each gave a speech.
Serving the real economy with finance is an important topic for performing the finance works well in the New Norm of economic development. At the symposium, JUMORE representative made his speech on fintech. He pointed out that, the promotion of “Belt & Road” Initiative requires lots of capital support, and the development of fintech will help countries along the B&R route to meet their financing demands in a more effective way. According to the report, through its cooperation with finance, insurance, and certification institutions around the world, JUMORE is not only capable of offering tailored financial solutions to companies, but also creating a unique and favorable environment for the development of fintech. Prior to the symposium, JUMORE had already signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Astana International Financial Center, and would help it to construct a world-level financial center to promote the construction of Belt & Road.
