There’re so many cosmeceutical spray brands in the market, each claiming that their product contain active spring water, volcanic water or mineral water, leaving the consumers all in a muddle. But what is exactly the difference between those bottles? So, I chose six of the most popular cosmeceutical sprays in the market and compare them in terms of the smooth degree of the spray, the moisture content of skin, sticky degree, pH and skin condition.

Evaluation Method
1. I describe them according to the rationality of the spray design, the spraying intensity and range.
2. Moisture testing method: I measure the original moisture content of the skin first, then the instant moisture content after spraying them on the skin.
3. Sticky degree testing method: Dry the dorsum of the hand before applying the spray, then dip the sponge particles after the hand fully absorb the spray.
4. pH testing method: Apply the spray on the pH test paper and compare them with standard color chart.
5. Skin condition evaluation method: Compare according to the smooth degree of the skin.
Product Testing
#1 LA-ROCHE POSAY Laboratore Dermatologque
Natural spring water from the French town of La Roche-Posay, featuring effectiveness and high tolerance with equilibrium distribution of unique mineral elements, neutral pH, selenium and calcium silicate, and can soothes and provides long-term conditioning to the skin.
-Nozzle design, intensity and range
Pump-sprinkler design is adopted in the nozzle with large pressing area, so it doesn’t take much effort to spray it. The spraying intensity of the nozzle is high; it sprays out water mist, which contributes to a large spraying range.
-Moisture Degree
The moisture content of the skin raised from 34% to 42%, an increase of 8%.
-Sticky Degree
The sponge particles occupied a relatively small area of the dorsum with 45 particles affixed on the hand.
-pH
The pH is neutral, approximately 7.
-Skin Condition
Before applying, my skin was dry and reddened; after applying, the above condition was improved, and it felt refreshing when my face was sprayed.

The moisture content of the skin raised from 35% to 43%, an increase of 8%.

The occupation of the sponge particles on the dorsum was relatively centralized, with 39 particles remained on the hand.

#3 Eau Thermale Avène
Active spring water from the Cevennes of France; It’s purely sterilized, containing microelements and silica and low mineral elements, which contributes to the forming of a smooth and ventilating protection membrane on the skin that can enhance the skin tolerance while reducing sensitivity, so as to relieve and repair the skin as well as relieve xerosis cutis.
-Nozzle design, intensity and range
Pump-sprinkler design is adopted in the nozzle with large pressing area, so it doesn’t take much effort to press it. The spraying intensity of the nozzle is high, spraying out large range of uniformity water mist.
-Moisture Degree
The moisture content of the skin raised from 38% to 48%, an increase of 10%.
-Sticky Degree
The sponge particles occupied a relatively small and dispersed area of the dorsum with 11 particles affixed on the hand.
-pH
The pH is neutral, approximately 7.
-Skin Condition
Before applying, my skin was dry and reddened; after applying, the above condition was significantly improved, with reddened area receded, burning sensation disappeared, the temperature of the skin dropped and the skin was brightened.

No.4 Caudalie EAU DE RAISIN
The high-purity natural grape essential oil was extracted from grapes in the Bordeaux region in southern France, with abundant trace elements such as potassium, calcium and magnesium and amino acids that helps the skin to absorb water as well as soothing and moisturizing the skin. It’s the only spray that contains essential oil among the six.
-Nozzle design, intensity and range
It takes a little effort to press the pump-nozzle which sprays out water drops of medium range, high intensity and the longest distance.
-Moisture Degree
The moisture content of the skin raised from 37% to 42%, an increase of 5%.
-Sticky Degree
The sponge particles occupied a relatively large area of the dorsum with 51 particles affixed on the hand.
-pH
The pH is approximately 6, meaning that it’s slightly acidic. (P.S: The photo here registered a color cast, when comparing with other color chart, it’s obviously more yellowish.)
-Skin Condition
Before applying, my skin was dry and reddened; after applying, the above condition was improved, with reddened area receded. The aurora was unique, with a slight dash of grape fragrance that’s quite refreshing.

#5 Vichy LABORATOIRES
Volcanic spring water from the Auvigne volcano area, the largest natural reserve in France. It riches in 15 minerals that helps the skin to withstand external invasion, facilitate the metabolism of the skin, repair the stratum cuticle of the skin and strengthen the skin barrier.
-Nozzle design, intensity and range
It doesn’t take much effort to press the pump-nozzle. The spraying range of the nozzle is small with medium spraying intensity; water beads would usually form and drop when spraying.
-Moisture Degree
The moisture content of the skin raised from 33% to 42%, an increase of 9%.
-Sticky Degree
The occupation of the sponge particles on the dorsum was relatively centralized, with 52 particles remained on the hand.
-pH
The pH was approximately 7-8, indicating slight alkalinity.

#6 Evian Natural Mineral Water Spray
This is snowmelt water or rain water from the parent mass peak of the French Alps that goes through the natural glacier filtering layer, so that the spray is pollution-free. It contains hexagon water that is made up of 5-7 water molecules which is more similar to human water molecule. It’s gentle, relieving and replenish your skin with water.
-Nozzle design, intensity and range
It takes a little effort to press the pump-nozzle which sprays out exquisite water mist of medium range and intensity.
-Moisture Degree
The moisture content of the skin raised from 34% to 43%, an increase of 9%.
-Sticky Degree
The sponge particles occupied a relatively large and dispersed area, with 66 particles affixed on the hand.
-pH
The pH is neutral, approximately 7.
-Skin Condition
Before applying, my skin was dry and reddened; after applying, the skin was relived, however, the reddened area remained unchanged.

Face Spray & Hydrating Mist Product Test Summary
1. In term of nozzle design, intensity and range, the La Roche-Posay spray obtains the largest range, while Caudalie has the highest and farthest spray injecting intensity; it takes a little effort to press the nozzle of Uriage and Evian spray, the rest are similar.
2. In term of moisture degree, the AVENE has the largest instant moisture difference, indicating the most substantial water replenishment effect among these six sprays.
3. In term of sticky degree, Evian>Vichy= Caudalie> La Roche-Posay>Uriage>AVENE, meaning that AVENE is the least sticky one that imposes the best refreshing effect on your skin.
4. In term of pH, Vichy> La Roche-Posay=Uriage=AVENE=Evian> Caudalie, Vichy is slightly alkalinity, and Caudalie is the only slightly acidic spray.
5. In term of skin condition, AVENE sooths your skin best given the fact the recede of the reddened area was the most significant, to my naked eyes, there’s not much difference among the rest.
On relieving sensitive skin at the season-changing period, AVENE presents the best effect, whose price is more or less similar to the other two relieving-orientated brands (La Roche-Posay, Vichy), thereby, I recommend AVENE to you.
If your skin is not sensitive and you don’t call for relieving sensation, then Uriage, whose price is comparatively low, would be your good bargain.
